The old cliches of consistency is the key to success I am finding to be true. It can be most difficult in the mental laziness to roll out of bed, stumble to the bathroom and go straight into my home oratory for morning ritual. I don't! Not often at least.
I recently had a series of email correspondences with Fr. Donald and one of them in part was on prayer. I asked about prayer because it is great to have this ritual which makes you feel like you are being a mystic or an occultist/esotericist! It is also great to just simply attune. Which is the more powerful? Well, what change occurs in your mind and in your heart? Does the attuning you do have more power because you lit incense and closed yourself off in a little space with a book of prayer written in special ink? Or is it also powerful to just remember God when you wake up in the morning and before your feet hit the floor, you have already started to pray and be grateful? I think both have the ability to affect change and both attune, however, one is simple and the other complex.
Tuesday-Friday, I start work at 11 - I have to be out by 9:45. I have plenty of time to do something more esoterically oriented. Saturday I have to leave by 7:45 to be at work and ready by 9. This day is more focused toward "simple attuning".
some esoteric circles teach that the membership of the Egregore should really be attuning several, specific times a day (some in specific direction). This is obviously practiced in some major world religions as well.
I believe that when you have time and your practice supports certain ritualistic applications to prayer that it will help aid in your process because of its formality. Other times, maybe it is just easy to be like Nike and just do it.
